There are four common ways to extract the oil, including extraction using volatile solvent, enfleurage, expression, and steam distillation. They are complicated processes that you may not be able to do at home. The best way to get the oil is by purchasing it from nearby grocery stores. It is available as over-the-counter product and you can get it fairly easily.

How to Use Essential Oils to Treat Headache

The essential oil that you use is a part of a recipe that you can use as a topical remedy. In general, two necessary ingredients are needed for the recipe: the essential oil itself and carrier oil, which is extracted from jojoba or sweet almond. This carrier oil is also available at grocery store. You can mix either 8 to 12 drops of one type of essential oil with 1 ounce carrier oil or a combination of two different essential oils (8-12 drops in total for the combination) with 1 ounce carrier oil. So, for instance, if you want to use aromatherapy oils headaches consisting of two oils, you can mix 4 drops of eucalyptus oil, 4 drops of spearmint oil and 1 ounce carrier oil.

The mixture should be used as topical remedy. You apply it to various parts of your head, including back of the neck, temples and forehead, using massaging procedure.
